Candice Denham-Soquena, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Denham has had a passion for medicine from a very young age. She grew up in Missouri and later moved to Oklahoma where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Science and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University. After graduation, she joined Kailua Animal Clinic in 2007. Dr. Denham's medical interests include naturopathic medicine (Chinese herbal medicine and nutritional therapy), ophthalmology, and ultrasound.

Dr. Denham is married to Thomas Soquena and just recently welcomed their second son Jakob into the world. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her sons Nicholas and Jakob.

Jill Yoshicedo, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Yoshicedo is a 2009 graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts. She grew up both in Kailua and on Maui, and is excited to have returned home to join the Kailua Animal Clinic team. Dr. Yoshicedo particularly enjoys exotic animal medicine, from rabbits and rats to cockatoos and chameleons. In addition to caring for goats and pot-bellied pigs, she serves as one of the island's few fish veterinarians. Other interests at work include soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, and dentistry. She currently serves as president on the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association Board, and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, Association of Avian Veterinarians, World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Yoshicedo enjoys exploring what remains of Hawaii's natural beauty, vermicomposting, and getting involved in Hawaiian conservation efforts from household waste reduction and supporting local agriculture to repopulation of native plants and animals. She is also compelled to advocate for social and environmental justice. Dr. Yoshicedo has an indoor cat and a rotating assortment of exotic animal fosters.

Beth Hudson, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Hudson, the daughter of two veterinarians, grew up on a family farm in Alabama with horses, cattle, cats, and dogs. As a child she spent many weekends camping and riding horses. She attended undergraduate school at Western Kentucky University and graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in biology/agriculture. While in school, she worked at two small animal veterinary clinics as well as on a dairy farm. Dr. Hudson attended veterinary school at Auburn University. She has a special interest in feline behavior and medicine.

Immediately following graduation, Dr. Hudson moved to Hawaii to be with her husband, Brian. Together they have two cats and a dog. In their spare time they enjoy traveling, going to the beach, snorkeling, hiking, and gardening.

Kathy Reed, Office Manager
Kathy was born in Illinois with family on Oahu. She started working in veterinary clinics in 1993, and first worked at Kailua Animal Clinic from 2002-2007. Kathy has recently returned to Oahu with her husband John to be closer to their son and family. In her free time, Kathy enjoys spending time with her two cats BB and Banzai, drawing, painting, playing her ukulele, beach combing, and enjoying her family!

Pua Kirkhill, Hospital Manager
Pua was born and raised in Kula on the island of Maui. After graduating high school, she moved to the San Francisco Bay area to attend Menlo College, where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business. Now living on Oahu, she spends her free time outdoors with her dog Ilima, or hanging out with friends.

U'i Hand, Receptionist
U'i was born and raised in Kailua. She graduated from Kamehameha Schools and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Family Resources. In 2011, she graduated with a Master's degree in Human Resource Management at UH. She grew up surrounded by animals and recently adopted a dog from the Hawaiian Humane Society. She enjoys working at Kailua Animal Clinic where she gets to meet new ones everyday!

Anuhea Keanini, Receptionist and Veterinary Assistant
Anu was born and raised in Kailua and graduated from Punahou in 2009. She went to school at Cal Poly San Louis Obispo and Washington State University. She is currently at Windward Community College pursuing her veterinary technician degree, and she would like to specialize in working with horses. When not at school or work, Anu likes going to the beach, watching movies, hanging with family, and hiking. She has always wanted to work with animals, and currently has a bull mastiff named Sunny and a betta fish named Poseidon.

Kiersten Kuwaye, Veterinary Assistant
Kiersten was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii. She recently graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor's degree in Animal Science. She brought home from Oregon her bunny Bambam to join her pets here in Hawaii, including a Norwich Terrier named Pebbles and a goat named Bella. When not at work, she enjoys hiking, going to the beach, and spending time with her family and friends.

Amelia Clark, Veterinary Assistant
Amelia was born and raised in Barnstead, New Hampshire. She has always had a passion for working with animals and grew up on a farm raising cows, pigs, sheep, horses, and chickens. At the University of Maine, she studied Biology. She moved to Hawaii in 2014 to have an adventure and see what new opportunities the islands might offer. Amelia’s family currently has two dogs, Grace and Pi; three cats, Carlos, Brady, and Kiki; two horses, Libby and Apollo; and a coop full of chickens; all living in New Hampshire with her dad, sister, and brother-in-law. She misses them very much but loves keeping in touch through Skype. When not at work, Amelia likes to go scuba diving, read, hang out with friends, and watch movies.

Katie Gomes, Animal Care Attendant
Katie was born and raised in Kailua. She attends Kamehameha High School. She has a love for animals and has her own pet care business. In her free time she enjoys playing soccer and basketball, surfing, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, parkour, and playing with her puppy Tucker.

Megan Johnston, Veterinary Assistant
Megan was born and raised in South Carolina. She moved to Kailua and joined the Kailua Animal Clinic team in January 2016. Megan's favorite animals are goats. In her free time, Megan enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, and watching movies.

Alison Dygert, Receptionist
Alison was born and raised in Southern California. She moved to Kailua in May 2015, after graduating from the George Washinton University where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies. Growing up with two veterinarians for parents, Alison always knew she wanted to work with animals, and joined the Kailua Animal Clinic team in August 2016. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, going to the beach, and playing with her bunny, Chalupa Batman.

Lacey Jarrells, Receptionist
Lacey was born and raised in Virginia, but moved to Hawaii in 2014 with her husband for his job. She has an associate's degree in science and plans to go back to school for environmental studies. In her free time, Lacey loves to go to the beach and spend time with her Australian shepherd Rowdy and her kitten Kona.

Alexis Atwater, Animal Care Attendant
Alexis was born and raised in Kailua. She is attending the Veterinary Technician Program at WCC, and recently joined our team in March 2017. She has owned and raised many animals including red-eared sliders, birds, cats, dogs, bunnies, and fish. When she's not working, she keeps busy with her 4-year old daughter Brookelynn, her golden retriever Daisy, her pomeranian Louis, and her bunny Lolita.

Kelli Valdez, Receptionist
Kelli is a true island girl, born and raised on the windward side of Oahu, in both Kailua and Waimanalo. Kelli comes from a family of animal lovers whose pets have included bunnies, guinea pigs, Coconut the turtle, and many dogs - Mikiala, Pali, and Tuggz, to name a few. Today Kelli is a proud mommy of her little 4 lb, 4 year old chihuahua named Canolli. In her spare time, she can be found enjoying the beach on a hot sunny day, taking evening walks around Keolu Hills and Enchanted Lake with Canolli, or strolling around Target (her happy place).

Jack, Clinic Cat
Jack came to Kailua Animal Clinic as an orphaned kitten seven years ago, and has since made himself right at home. He spends his days laying about the clinic and pouncing on KAC staff members. Don't let his handsome good looks fool you; he prefers the company of cats over people and is often a complete grump. His favorite things are eating, sleeping, playing with catnip, and drinking running water from a faucet.
